Frankfurt housing project ‘Gemeinsam Suffizient Leben’ shortlisted for the Hessian State Prize for Architecture

We are delighted, together with the Wohnungsbaugenossenschaft in Frankfurt am Main eG, that our project dgj228 ‘Gemeinsam Suffizient Leben’ has been shortlisted for the ‘Exemplary Buildings in the State of Hesse 2026 – State Prize for Architecture and Urban Planning’. Out of a total of 106 submitted projects, 23 were selected for the shortlist.

The housing project was built on a plot measuring just around 313 square metres on Friedberger Landstraße in Frankfurt’s Nordend district. In collaboration with the Frankfurt am Main Housing Cooperative eG, a building was developed that demonstrates how communal and sustainable living can succeed even within very limited spatial constraints. Today, around 15 adults and 10 children live there in nine residential units.

The design by DGJ Architektur is based on a timber-frame structure offering a high degree of adaptability and a resource-efficient layout concept. Communal spaces complement the compact private living areas and create space for socialising and communal living.

The ‘Exemplary Buildings in the State of Hesse’ award has been presented by the State of Hesse and the Hesse Chamber of Architects and Town Planners since 1954. The award ceremony will take place on 20 October 2026 in Wiesbaden.
