German Sustainability Award for Architecture 2024 for the Collegium Academicum in Heidelberg

Our project dgj223 Collegium Academicum was awarded the German Sustainability Award for Architecture 2024.

From the jury’s perspective, the student residence project is exemplary for the transformation in the construction sector: it represents a consistent combination of social commitment, ecological responsibility, and architectural quality. As the first self-managed and self-financed residential project of this scale in Germany, the Collegium Academicum sets new standards for community-oriented development of living spaces.

Even in the urban development context, the project makes a significant contribution: on the site of the former Heidelberg military area “Hospital,” the repurposing is creating a vibrant neighborhood. The Collegium Academicum serves here as a model for transforming existing infrastructure into future-oriented, mixed residential forms.

The award is presented annually by the German Sustainability Award Foundation in cooperation with the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) and is supported by numerous institutions in architecture and building culture.

We are delighted by this recognition and thank the project initiators for their trust as well as all participants for their committed collaboration.
