dgj242 MUTACHSTRASSE Bern
„Bern lives in neighbourhoods“ is one of the three main fields of the city development concept in Bern. Underlying is the idea that the identity and degree of affiliation of the inhabitants of Bern relate closely to the identity of the diverse neighbourhoods. Moreover than being functional units in daily life, they become a central spot of identification and a space for developing social relationships.
Through building the housing complex in Mutachstrasse, the nearby park and the project Warmbächliweg, the neighbourhood of Holligen will experience some deeper changes. Around 1000 new residents will characterise the identity of the district and change it in the long term. The projects aims to create affordable and high-quality living in a vivid neighbourhood. Therefore, individual development merges with communal living within a participation model. The project is a prototype for sustainable housing by using a building system which can be duplicated in other places.
The competition entry was designed in cooperation with Bob Gysin + Partner BGP Architekten ETH SIA BSA.
