dgj204 Housing Briesestrasse, Neukölln, Berlin
The competition entry for Neukölln forms a link between the block structures of the 19th century in the east and the open urban high-rise buildings of the 80‘s. In this way the building volume closes on one side to the block edges and forms a conclusion of the block. The dense urban constructions typical for Berlin reveals its quality above all from the inner courtyards.
Our design offer three different types of courts: the inner courtyard within the new block, the atrium as a mediator between inside and outside and the open plaza as an addition to green spaces of the park to the south. The centrepiece is a large residential courtyard that can be used as a playground and communal garden. On the ground floor the courtyard opens up for mutiple shared uses, so that no conflicts arise to the private residential areas.
