The New Housing Question: JUNG Architecture Talks 2025 in Hamburg

On October 16, 2025, the JUNG Architecture Talks will take place in Hamburg under the title:
“The New Housing Question – Paths Out of the Crisis?”
The renowned event series will make a stop in the Hanseatic city and focus on one of the most pressing issues of our time: the acute shortage of affordable, sustainable, and future-proof housing.

New impulses for building and living

The event invites architects, urban planners, project developers, and representatives from politics and society to jointly develop perspectives. Central questions include:

  • Which architectural strategies can respond to the housing crisis?
  • What do new, community-oriented forms of living look like?
  • What role do sustainability, construction costs, and urban density play in future housing development?

With contributions from practice, research, and planning, the format offers a discursive platform for concrete solutions and new ways of thinking.

DGJ Architektur represented in Hamburg

We are especially pleased that Hans Drexler from DGJ Architektur will be part of the program in Hamburg. In his contribution, he brings the perspective of a firm that has been intensively engaged for many years with efficient, climate-conscious, and community-oriented housing forms.
This includes topics such as the role of circularity in construction, reduced space requirements as an opportunity, and the architectural design of socially just housing models.
DGJ Architektur understands architecture as a shaping force of societal transformation — accordingly, their participation in Hamburg reflects this commitment.

Part of a nationwide series of talks

The 2025 Architecture Talks take place under the overarching theme “Architecture’s Mission – Attitude. Responsibility. Transformation.” and tour nine cities in total. Hamburg will be the final stop. Previously, various aspects of the built environment have been discussed in Berlin, Frankfurt, Dresden, and Freiburg — from heritage preservation and public building culture to young talents awarded by the DAM Prize.

Hamburg: a city in transition

Especially in Hamburg — with its growing population, ambitious housing goals, and inner-city transformation processes — the topic strikes a chord. The event thus promises not only exciting professional exchange but also important impulses for concrete local planning questions.
