The building is in a significant location of the city: Overlooking the bridge and the river, it connects as much to its surroundings as to the larger scale of the city. The Periscope project incorporates these references into a unique building shape: the linear development along Oskar-von-Miller-Straße is continued, curved, so that the tower marks the bridgehead and forms the end of the residential buildings along the river. The alignment of the periscope as a building was developed directly from views of the surroundings. The two main views, the skyline and the river, are emphasised by distinctive openings of the building.
